MISINFORMED MISCONCEIVED

Misconceived is a narrative driven puzzle simulation game built in Unreal Engine 5 that explores the spread of disinformation and its consequences  through an engaging, narrative-driven experience.

You play as the editor of a highly influential news outlet, and are tasked with reviewing, editing, and deciding which articles to publish.

Throughout its run-time, the game presents the player with many moral dilemmas – making the player choose between spreading disinformation and fake news to the masses to appease your “upper management”, or maintaining journalistic integrity, which could cost you your career, your safety, or even the lives of those around you.

Inspired by Papers Please and The Stanley Parable, Misconceived challenges players to navigate ethical decision-making in a satirical yet thought-provoking way.

As part of the development team, I led the design and implementation of the game’s core systems using UE5 Blueprints. This included building the interactive article editing tools, computer UI features, and visual novel-style dialogue sequences with other characters. My role also involved shaping the overall game design to ensure that mechanics and narrative themes reinforced each other, delivering a cohesive player experience.

Beyond programming and design, I contributed to narrative integration, prototyping decision-based branching paths, and ensuring the game was accessible and engaging for players unfamiliar with traditional “point-and-click” formats. Working under tight time constraints, I developed effective workflows to rapidly iterate on ideas and align the gameplay with the project’s vision.
